PhD Student (m/f/d) & Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) | Systems biology of ubiquitin: from chemistry to mass spec to cellular regulation.

The departments of ‘Molecular Machines and Signaling’ and ‘Proteomics and Signal Transduction’ at the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry headed by Brenda Schulman and Matthias Mann seek highly motivated and talented researchers (m/f/d) for two positions, PhD Student (m/f/d) and Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d).

Project Overview

The joint projects between Schulman and Mann departments build on their longstanding expertise in the ubiquitin field and proteomics. The projects combine developing innovative chemical and biological probes with cutting-edge mass spectrometry and cell biology, to explore active ubiquitin E3 ligase networks in cells. Our aims are to discover novel complexes, molecular and structural mechanisms, and principles of cellular regulation by ubiquitin-proteasome system.

We focus on diverse areas of biology where unearthing signaling via the ubiquitin system is pivotal. These include metabolic signaling, immune responses, neuronal function and degeneration, cancer cell biology, and infection. The anticipated outcomes include deep insights into cellular networks, identification of potential therapeutic targets, and advancements in methodologies for interactomics, proteoforms, and complexosomes studies. We refine approaches and questions based on experimental findings to make impactful discoveries and develop cutting-edge new methods.

Requirements
