The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems seeks to understand natural intelligence, such as that exhibited by animals and humans, and to use this understanding to create artificial systems that can successfully interact with complex environments. Researchers at the Stuttgart campus of our institute concentrate on physical systems that range from very small medical robots to larger devices that physically interact with people. Our institute’s Tübingen campus mainly focuses on computational subjects such as machine learning and computer vision. We take a highly interdisciplinary approach that combines mathematics, computer science, engineering, materials science, and biology. 

For our campus in Stuttgart we are now looking for an  IT Network Administrator (f/m/d).

Your Responsibilities

  • Administration of the entire wired and wireless network on our campus
  • Commissioning of new components for the lab environment, data center and office area
  • Integration of virtualization techniques into the network infrastructure
  • Further development of the existing network concept
  • Collaboration in the further development and implementation of the IT security concept, especially in the network area
  • Network monitoring, maintenance of network documentation and organization of network cabling (optical fibre) 

Your Background

  • Trained as an IT specialist, bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent qualification
  • Very good knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and the structure of networks
  • Extensive experience in administration of firewalls
  • Profound knowledge of switching and routing protocols
  • Good understanding of DNS and DHCP
  • Certifications (e.g. CCNA, CCNP) would be beneficial
  • Independent, structured and solution-oriented work as well as strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Good written and spoken English

This position is initially for 2 years, with the possibility of becoming permanent.
