The focus of this issue also takes up the theme of the Science Year 2024 “Freedom”. This time, it is about how law and rules create freedom: In Germany, the Federal Constitutional Court watches over this in the last instance. Whether and how the highest court can be protected from anti-freedom and anti-democratic attacks is one of our topics. It is also about how the freedom of people who are existentially threatened by climate change can be secured - even if it is the freedom to seek refuge in other countries. Finally, we shed light on the extent to which Germany has benefited from the freedom that the EU has created, particularly with the single market, and how freedom and prosperity can be secured in the future.
