Three representatives of the Max Planck Society were awarded the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art on November 10, 2021: President Martin Stratmann as well as Franz-Ulrich Hartl, Director at the MPI of Biochemistry and Immanuel Bloch, Director at the MPI of Quantum Optics. Other award winners were filmmaker Doris Dörrie and violinist and pianist Julia Fischer. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) presented the awards to the ten winners in the Antiquarium of the Munich Residence.

Dioscuri goes Czech Republic
Up to five Dioscuri Centres to be established in the next few years

A virtual signature, which will create new connections: Max Planck President Martin Stratmann and Robert Plaga, the Czech Minister of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS), signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on 2 September 2021. This marks the start of the joint, person-centred Dioscuri Programme in the Czech Republic. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the signing took place virtually. It was attended by (from left to right): Dr. Pavel Doleček, Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Science and Research at MEYS, Anja Karliczek, Federal Minister of Education and Research, Germany, Andreas Künne, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Czech Republic, Prof. Vladimír Mařík, Vice-Chairman of the Research, Development and Innovation Council of the Czech Republic and Prof. Joachim Sauer, Chair of the Dioscuri Committee.
