The Department of Sustainable and Bioinspired Materials (Director Prof. Dr. Silvia Vignolini) at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany, invites applications from outstanding young scientists for the position of PhD student (m/f/d) for Mycelium Composites.
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student in the field of bio-based composites. The candidate should have a degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related fields, with an outstanding profile, a strong background, and interests in
- Fungal cell culture and the development of novel procedures
- Characterization techniques of natural polymers
- Preparation of complex mycelium composites
- Chemical modification of natural polymers (hemicellulose, chitin, and lignin)
- Mechanical and chemical characterization techniques
The position will be in the Multifunctional Bio-Composite group.
The position is available starting in early 2023.
