December 14, 2020

The ERC Consolidator Grants support excellent young researchers who have completed their doctorates between seven and twelve years prior to the publication date of the call. In 2020, seven scientists from the Max Planck Society will be supported with up to three million euros to expand their scientific independence.

A total of 2,506 applications were submitted, of which 327 will receive funding in the total of 655 million euros. The following Max Planck researchers were successful in this round:

Chemistry, Physics and Technology Section

Biology and Medicine Section

Humanities, Social and Human Sciences Section

With seven grants, the Max Planck Society is one of the most successful host institutions for ERC Consolidator Grants in Germany, behind the Helmholtz Association (nine grants). In Europe, the MPG ranks fourth with several other organizations.

The European Research Council was established by the European Union in 2007 and is the first European funding organization for excellent frontier research. Each year, the ERC selects and funds the best and most creative researchers to carry out projects in Europe. The ERC offers four main funding programs: Starting, Consolidator, Advanced and Synergy Grants.
