Medical therapies are constantly evolving. As part of our focus on the “Future of Medicine” Science Year, we are presenting new approaches in three areas. We describe how a team in Göttingen is advancing a treatment for cardiac arrhythmias that is far gentler than the painful electric shocks commonly used today. For mental health conditions, AI-powered apps could complement psychotherapy—researchers at various Max Planck Institutes are working on this. Finally, AI is also helping in the search for new antibiotics, which are to be produced from microorganisms using modified biochemical production lines.
