Summary
Today’s societies are facing extraordinary challenges that require democratically legitimised action. However, opinions regarding different issues — for instance on climate change or on the handling of increasing refugee movements — are sometimes deeply divided. The Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Science coordinates the European project Odycceus which studies fundamental mechanisms of opinion dynamics for a better understanding of how social, cultural and topic-specific circumstances impact processes of political opinion formation.
