Born 1952 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. B.S. in Biology from Pennsylvania State University (1974), PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience from Duke University (1982), Postdoctoral fellow at the Medical University of South Carolina (1982-1983), Assistant Professor, Deptartment of Anatomy at Duke University Medical Center (1983), joined the Department of Neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center at its inception in 1990, promoted to Professor of Neurobiology (1999), appointed Director of the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences (2008), named James B. Duke Professor of Neurobiology at Duke University School of Medicine (2009), Scientific Director and Chief Executive Officer of Max Planck Florida Institute, Jupiter, Florida (2011).
