MPG Campus Martinsried
The Campus Martinsried is one of Germany’s most important research locations for life sciences and is home to the two Max Planck Institutes for Biological Intelligence and of Biochemistry. After more than 50 years of intensive use, the buildings housing the Institutes are showing their age. In the long term, they can no longer meet the requirements of modern, future-oriented and flexible scientific research. Renovation would not be able to meet climate, structural, and legal requirements in an economical viable way.
For these reasons, a new Max Planck Campus is to be built, with a strong focus on flexible, functional research buildings for science, as well as on sustainability in both construction and operation. The vision for this important construction project of the Max Planck Society is to create a place that stands for excellent, forward-looking research, communication, and innovation, realized on a sustainable and open campus with recreational value.
To make this possible, an international planning competition was launched, the results of which are now being presented in an exhibition. We are looking forward to sharing with you the ideas for our new campus and the design that will now form the basis for further planning.
Please note that, because the competition process was conducted in German, a significant portion of the information in the exhibition is available in German only.
For English-speaking visitors, we therefore offer dedicated guided tours and are happy to answer any questions you may have. Of course, you are also welcome to explore the exhibition and the designs on your own. For further German-speaking tours and information, please visit the German version of this website.
