How is the immune system tricked by the HI-virus?

According to the World Health Organization, almost 40 million people around the globe are affected by HIV, and more than one million suffer death due to AIDS per year. A promising research project was set up, aiming for better understanding of the resistancies and adaptation mechanisms of the HI-virus.

In the war against HIV and AIDS, it is all about learning to understand the enemy, before being able to generate new and better tactics against the disease. The donations 2016 by our Supporting Members were funneled to a project by the Dept. of Computational Biology & Applied Algorithmics at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Saarbrücken. In this project, together with the neighboring Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Technology, forces were joined to achieve a better understanding of HIV-evolution, all aimed at improving therapy options.
