More responsibility for young scientists. The Friedrich Miescher Laboratory is founded in Tübingen

In 1969, the young Max Planck Campus in Tübingen saw a new laboratory built which not only offered more working space, but also introduced a new principle of research support, which transferred more responsibility to young scientists. This laboratory was to house the first Independent Junior Research Groups of the MPG. Junior Research Groups are independent research teams, responsible for their own work and headed by postdoc scientists, who are able to gather their first experience as leaders of large scientific projects with several members of staff.
