Structured doctoral training and excellent research conditions - this is what the International Max Planck Research Schools stand for. The first such school was founded in the year 2000. Since then, outstandingly qualified junior scientists from all over the world have had the opportunity to obtain their doctoral degrees at Max Planck Institutes and their partner universities in Germany. Only the best students, however, are admitted. Using the doctoral schools in Magdeburg and Jena as examples, this short film provides some insight into the structures of an IMPRS, the hopes and expectations of foreign students attending the programme, as well as into the selection procedures and close collaboration with partner universities.
