Dance of quantum magnets
SummaryUltracold atoms in optical lattices provide an optimal platform to study microscopic processes in quantum many-body systems. Theoretical models from solid state physics can be implemented in the laboratory and their predictions can be tested in novel ways. One of the recent advancements in the field is the realization of magnetic systems that can be manipulated on the level of single elementary magnets. Using this technique, fundamental magnetic excitations, so called magnons, and their dynamics and interactions have been recently observed.
