In order to promote cross-border scientific networks within Latin America, the Max Planck Society first as generally started to establish Partner Groups. These Groups give particularly talented post-docs from Argentina who have worked at Max Planck institutes the opportunity to continue their projects in their home country and qualify for leadership posts. By way of support, the MPG provides them with pump-priming finance in the amount of 20,000 euros per year for five years. The native research organization provides infrastructure, equipment and research funding.
This form of cooperation has well proven its worth. By 2015, the MPG had already established more than 20 Partner Groups in Latin America, the most in Argentina, followed by Brazil, Chile, Peru and Uruguay.
