Top Employer for Post Docs

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cellular Biology and Genetics in Dresden was voted the world’s best employer in a survey carried out by the science magazine The Scientist

In a survey carried out by the magazine The Scientist, the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cellular Biology and Genetics was voted the number one research institution outside of the USA by 3,438 scientists. The survey participants included readers and registered users of the magazine website who evaluated their places of work on the basis of 43 criteria distributed across 11 areas.

Factors such as opportunities for advanced training and career development, the quality of the mentoring and internal communication were assessed. The exemplary support provided to post-docs by the institute, both in the laboratory and everyday life were singled out for particular praise.

The top position in the USA is held by the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge. At international level, the list is headed by the Dresden-based institute followed in second place by the University of Copenhagen and the University of Utrecht in third. The Dresden institute is the only German institution to feature among the top ten.
