Summary
Microstructured photonic crystal fibre has introduced the unique new opportunity to guide light over long distances in a hollow core. This allows one to carry out detailed studies of nonlinear light-gas interactions under extreme conditions. Two recent results are reported: the generation of bright tunable deep-ultraviolet light and pulse propagation in photo-ionised noble gases.
