Curriculum Vitae
Tatiana Ilyina is a professor in Earth System Sciences at the University of Hamburg and at the Helmholtz Centre Hereon. From 2010 until 2026, she led the research group “Ocean Biogeochemistry” at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology.
Research Interests
The oceans are the largest reservoir of carbon on Earth. They constantly exchange carbon with the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide. Although microorganisms play a key role in how carbon is transported and stored in the ocean, they are rarely included in Earth system models. Therefore, Tatiana Ilyina develops Earth system models to better understand the carbon cycle in the ocean and its role in our climate.
