Summary
Transposons are genetic sequences that can independently change their position within the genome, thereby triggering mutations and diseases. In our research group, we studied a retrotransposon of viral origin and demonstrated that it causes limb malformations in mice during development. Our findings describe a previously unrecognized disease mechanism that may help explain developmental disorders that have so far remained poorly understood.
