Summary
The medical use of artificial intelligence (AI) threatens to undermine patients’ ability to make personalised decisions. In this project, I question the extent to which two different legal systems can address this challenge to patient autonomy. I highlight the problematic features of clinical AI and anticipate the solutions that can be derived from the norms of informed consent. Building on this, I present a concrete regulatory proposal, emphasising the central role of law in governing innovative technologies.
