Summary
The development of new types of catalysts creates access to new materials and enables energy to be saved on a large scale. The focus of research is usually on the active center of the catalyst. However, we know much less about how the placement and embedding of the active centres can be controlled in order to optimize their activity. We were able to show that a suitable environment can enable inexpensive nickel to compete with expensive palladium.
