The International Max Planck Research School for Molecules of Life (IMPRS-ML) in Munich currently has an open call for fully funded PhD student positions in the areas of biochemistry, structural biology, biophysics, cell biology, systems biology, and computational biology.

IMPRS-ML brings together two renowned Max Planck Institutes, the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) and the Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence (MPI-BI), as well as two leading partner universities, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and the Technische Universität München (TUM), to deliver first-class training for the world’s most promising young scientists. Our graduate school comprises more than 250 PhD students from 40+ countries as well as 38 distinguished and internationally recognised faculty members.

Curriculum and training

IMPRS-ML offers high-level scientific training in a dynamic and international research environment with state-of-the-art facilities to doctoral researchers aiming for successful careers in science. Our comprehensive curriculum allows our students to tailor their learning to their interests, requiring them to earn 25 ECTS through various activities. This flexible approach enhances their learning opportunities.

Who are we looking for?

  • Applicants should hold an MSc (or equivalent degree) with a strong background in biological sciences, biochemistry, biophysics, biotechnology or a related discipline.
  • Outstanding applicants with a 4-year BSc hons (or equivalent degree) may be eligible to apply depending on the degree-awarding country.
