Curriculum Vitae

Meritxell Huch was born in Barcelona in 1978. She studied pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Barcelona and obtained her PhD in biomedicine at the Center for Genomic Regulation in 2007. After her postdoctoral period in the Netherlands, Meritxell Huch conducted research as a junior research group leader at the Gurdon Institute at the University of Cambridge from 2014. In 2019, she was awarded the first Lise Meitner Excellence Program Prize of the Max Planck Society and moved her lab to the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics. Since 2022, she has been director of the department "Tissue Regeneration and its Deregulation in Disease" there.

Research Interests

Meritxell Huch's department is developing organoid models to study the properties of mammalian tissues during homeostasis and regeneration. The researchers want to find out how diseases arise from changes in cellular properties and behaviors.

Selected Awards

For her pioneering work in the development of organoid models, Meritxell Huch has received several awards, including the Hamdan Award for Medical Excellence, the Women in Cell Science Prize of the British Society, the EMBO Young Investigator Award and the BINDER Prize.
