Since 16 September 2021, Prof. Dr Christof Paar has been one of the holders of the Ring of Honour of the City of Bochum. At a ceremony in the Kammerspiele of the Bochum Schauspielhaus, the RUB IT expert was presented with the ring by Lord Mayor Thomas Eiskirch. He was also allowed to sign the city's golden book together with 14 other distinguished personalities.

The city council justified the award with Christof Paar's many services to one of the most important research areas in Bochum - IT security.

  • as founding director of the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy (MPI-SP)
  • through his significant involvement in the establishment of the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI)
  • as well as his role as one of the spokespersons of the Cluster of Excellence CASA.

It was not only Paar's more than 20 years of expertise in the field of computer system security and the interdisciplinary nature of his research that were highlighted, but also his commitment to young talent in the field of founding IT security start-ups.

Christof Paar is delighted to receive the award and proud that, together with his colleagues from HGI, CASA and MPI-SP, he has been able to build Bochum into one of the leading centres for IT security in Europe.
