Job Offer from November 16, 2020

We are offering fully-funded PhD positions in the Schmidt lab at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute of Neuroscience in Frankfurt am Main.

About the lab:

The lab is interested in mapping spatial navigation circuits, in particular the interplay of hippocampal neurons and cells in the medial entorhinal cortex. We use modern 3D electron-microscopic methods to untangle networks underlying spatial navigation from the fascinatingly complex brains of mice and shrews.

About you:

If you are enthusiastic about neurons, the synaptic point-to-point connections they make and how they form networks that are able to compute complex tasks in the world of spatial navigation – get in touch! If you are interested in learning state of the art techniques for circuit reconstruction, high-throughput data analysis, and are excited about developing new methods – we’d love to hear from you!

How to apply:

Doctoral candidates (Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree holders, or equivalent) from any field (life sciences, physics, computer science, engineering, …) should include a CV and a short description of their particular motivation. Start time for the thesis is flexible but we anticipate a start in early 2021. This call will remain open until the positions are filled. Please contact Dr. Helene Schmidt to discuss questions at and see http://helenelab.org.
