Job Offer from June 13, 2018
A doctoral or postdoc position in metabolic modeling, biosystems engineering, computational and systems biology and related areas is available in Steffen Klamt’s group at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg (Germany). Our group develops and applies methods and algorithms for the mathematical modeling and targeted modification of biological networks. One particular focus is the application of computational and model-driven approaches for the rational metabolic engineering of microorganisms to optimize biotechnological processes.
For an interdisciplinary research project, in which innovative computational and experimental techniques will be tested and combined for the cell-free production of chemicals, we are looking for a talented and motivated doctoral student or postdoc. He or she will be responsible for modeling and simulation of metabolic networks and cell-free enzymatic systems and will work in an interdisciplinary team with experimentalists (microbiologists). The candidate should have an excellent degree and experience in one or several of the following fields:
- Computational biology, Systems biology
- Biosystems engineering, Metabolic Engineering, Synthetic Biology, Bioprocess engineering
- (Bio)mathematics (especially modeling, simulation or optimization of biological networks)
Experiences in the areas of metabolic modeling and/or metabolic or genetic engineering would be of particular advantage (but no explicit requirement).
The Max Planck Institute and our group offer excellent research opportunities in a stimulating and friendly environment. Salary and benefits are commensurate with the collective wage agreement for the public service (TVöD Bund). The position is immediately available (later starting date would be possible), initially for two years with the possibility of an extension.
The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the representation of women and persons with physical disabilities. We particularly encourage such individuals to apply.
There is no strict deadline and the call is open until the position is filled. Applicants should prepare a single PDF file containing an application letter, CV, certificates, a short statement of research interests, a brief description of scientific achievements (if applicable, especially for postdocs), and, if possible, contact information for two references. This PDF file should be send to firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
