The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Location Tübingen, is looking for a Robotics or Software Engineer for its Autonomous Motion Department.

Join us at the Autonomous Motion Deparment of the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen, Germany, a leading center for research in computer vision, robotics, and machine learning. Our research focuses in intelligent robotic systems that can move, perceive and learn from experience. Our resources and research are world class. From our robots to our software architecture, scanners, camera systems, and laboratories, you will be working with the best resources available.

Your Role

You will modernize our core software for advanced robotics, including the architecture for the realtime control of our robotic platforms. Your work will have a critical and long lasting impact on a wide range of research projects and robotic applications. You will work in close collaboration with both the senior researchers of the Autonomous Motion Department, and the Software Workshop, a team of software engineers dedicated to helps researchers to develop well-structured and maintainable scientific software.

This is a unique position combining being part of a large and vibrant academic research institute, applying state of the art software engineering practices and benefiting from a rare hand-on experience with world-class robots.

Your responsibilities

  • analysis of the currently existing code and designing plan for refactor
  • professional software design, coding and testing in simulated and real robotic platforms

Your desirable skills

  • Master degree (or higher) in robotics or related close field, with two or more years experience in software engineering (e.g. professional software development in a team and/or open source experience)
  • strong experience in c/c++
  • previous experience working with realtime controlled robotic platforms will be appreciated
  • excellent team playing skills
  • good written/spoken English and communication skills. German is not required. 

Our offer

Salaries and contract will be based on previous experience according to the German wage agreement für the public service (TVöD guidelines). This is a full-time position, limited to two years.
