The Max Planck Institute for Physics invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Detector Development/Belle experiment.
The Max-Planck-Institut für Physik participates in the Belle experiment and the future Belle-II experiment at KEK, Japan. For Belle-II, the DEPFET collaboration of which the institute is a member, is developing a pixel vertex detector (PXD) which has to work at luminosities up to 8x1035 cm-2s-1. The PXD will use DEPFET active pixel sensors. It offers a high signal over noise ratio, fast readout, and can be made very thin (50 μm). These features make the DEPFET an ideal detector for the challenging environment at Belle-II. The DEPFETs are produced in the semiconductor laboratory of the Max-Planck-Institut für Physik and the Max-Planck-Institut für Extraterrestrische Physik. The Belle-II detector is expected to start data taking at the upgraded KEKB accelerator (“SuperKEKB”) at the beginning of 2015.
The successful applicant is expected to take a lead in the design of test setups and commissioning procedures for the pixel detector system at the various stages of development. The applicant must be knowledgeable in semiconductor physics and electronics. Previous experience in detector development would be an advantage. A formal requirement for this position is a PhD in physics.
The institute offers a post-doctoral position for this project for an initial period of two years. Salary and benefits are commensurate with public service organization rules (TVöD). The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer. The goal is to enhance the percentage of women where they are underrepresented. Women, therefore, are espe-cially encouraged to apply. The Society is committed to employing more handicapped people. Applications of handicapped people are particularly welcome.
For questions concerning the position please contact Dr. Jelena Ninkovic (ninkovic@mpp.mpg.de). Interested applicants should send an application letter including curriculum vitae, list of publications and a statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to arrive no later than March 15, 2012 at the following address:
