Born on 21st July, 1941, in Pähl (Weilheim/Bavaria). Study of medicine, doctorate Gießen Univ. (1970), habilitation in neurology Munich Univ. (1979), senior consultant of the Dept. of Neuropsychology at Munich-Bogenhausen Hospital (1984), apl. Professor of Neurology (1986), Founding Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (since 1994), Full Professor and director of the Day-Care Clinic of Cognitive Neurology at Leipzig Univ. (1996). Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, Leipzig, formerly Max Planck Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (since 2004).
