The Institute is concerned with fundamental problems and current developments in the fields of international and European law, and public law as it applies in Germany and abroad. Traditionally, the Institute has long been available to provide information, reports and advice to the parliaments, administrative authorities and courts charged with dealing with such issues. In particular the German Federal Constitutional Court, the Bundestag and the federal and state government ministries make use of the Institute’s services. With over 570,000 volumes, the library at the Institute in Heidelberg is the largest in Europe and one of the most extensive in the world devoted to international law, comparative public law and European law.
